Sex robot or sex doll: choose by function
Start with what the product needs to do. Appearance, motor movement and AI conversation are different choices.
The term sex robot is used for very different hardware. A lifelike body may be manually poseable, while an AI head may talk without moving its face. An electric motor does not automatically provide conversation or learning either. We therefore use four practical setups to help with your first choice. The categories concern documented functions; they are not an industry-wide standard or a guarantee that all products in a group work alike.
| Setup | The essentials | Points to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Manual doll | Body and manually adjustable joints | Material, handling, weight and cleaning |
| Doll with a motor function | A limited electrical movement | Exact motor, controls, stopping and service |
| Conversational head | Physical head with a voice service | Language, internet, account and ongoing payment |
| Head with conversation and expressions | AI voice and documented facial mechanics | Which parts move and fit together |
If you primarily want a physical doll
Start with material, total weight and which joints can be positioned manually. Choose an electronic feature because you have a specific need for it. Look for the exact configuration in the quotation: a manufacturer may use the same photo for a base model and a model with options. Yuuka.A, for example, is a named body for which Waist-spin is selected separately. A photo of the body alone therefore does not show whether the motor package is included.
If you want a particular mechanical movement
First choose the movement itself: neck, waist, pump or movement from an external machine. Then ask for a demonstration of that exact installed mechanism and its local stop. High speed does not automatically mean better control. A limited motor function should not be described as a freely moving body either. Our separate motor article explains the differences; the model assessment covers the specific version's limitations.
If conversation matters most
Compare language, microphone, response time, memory and service access before the face's appearance. Irontech, for example, describes AI voice in a physical head, but this does not in itself document motorised facial expressions. You can also start with a digital companion without physical hardware and see whether the conversation format suits you. A useful trial uses ordinary, non-sensitive topics and repetition over time rather than assuming that a marketed memory feature works perfectly.
If you want both facial movement and conversation
Annika is a specific head with described facial mechanics and a separate voice service. The head package does not include a silicone body. Body, connection and software terms must therefore be assessed separately. If you already own a body, a matching thread size alone does not prove correct fit, stability or material compatibility. Use the manufacturer's specific instructions for the combination and get a written answer before choosing an upgrade.
Keep social robots and intimate functions separate
A humanoid may appeal for physical presence and conversation without documentation of intimate hardware. Realbotix Echo is currently described with a waiting list and social use. It should therefore not be chosen on an assumption of features the manufacturer does not document. The same distinction applies to software: an AI girlfriend is a digital service, while app control of a motor is a control function. Choose a model based on what can be documented now.
Use four questions to choose your next step
Do you want a body, a particular movement, conversation or a combination? Which features need to work locally? Can you manage the model's weight, care and storage? And what is your budget, including options and services? Your answers create a shortlist that is easier to compare than the category 'sex robot' alone. Move on to the price guide and individual assessments once you can name the feature you actually want.
Choose the product type before the model. A smaller, clearly described setup may be more relevant than several unresolved options. You can compare documented strengths and caveats on our product pages.
