How to assess an AI girlfriend in practice

Explore the functions you will actually use. One good reply does not reveal how a longer relationship will work.

This is our suggested practical walkthrough for you to use yourself. It does not report results from testing the services. Use the same fictional information and tasks in each service, and record the version, plan and date. This allows you to distinguish a documented feature from what you observe yourself.

Start with the same brief background

Describe a fictional adult character with three interests and a preferred conversation style. Ask for a short conversation about an ordinary everyday situation. See whether the responses follow the style, ask relevant questions and avoid inventing a shared past. Assess the specific response; a term such as personality is not a measure of quality in itself.

Explore memory without private information

Choose three non-sensitive details, such as a fictional favourite book, a made-up travel plan and a preferred form of address. Return to them after several topic changes. Record whether the system remembers, guesses or asks for a reminder. Character.AI itself says memory notes do not guarantee accurate recall. A single mistake does not tell you everything about the service's memory either. [1]

Assess Danish text and voice separately

Start by writing in Danish and examine word choice and coherence. If your plan includes voice, try a similar conversation and note pronunciation, pauses and interruptions. Kindroid explains that menu language is separate from chat, speech and transcription. A Danish menu item is therefore not a test of Danish conversation quality. [2]

See whether you can correct the course

Ask the character for shorter replies or a different form of address. Correct a fictional detail and return to it later. Note the difference between a correction in chat and a change in a separate memory setting. Our suggestion is to explore how easily you can shape the experience, rather than simply count features.

Include access and renewal

Write down which plan you are trying and which features it includes. Check the trial end date, next payment and where to cancel before buying. Replika describes automatic renewal of paid subscriptions and different feature tiers. A free feature on one service therefore cannot automatically be compared with a paid version on another. [3]

Save observations, not an invented score

Keep specific notes: What did you ask? What did the system reply? Did the same thing happen again? Leave out intimate or identifying information during a trial. If you share an experience with us, state the service, plan, time and limitations. Such a description is more useful than a vague claim that an AI feels human.
