A character platform rather than one fixed relationship
Our view is that Character.AI belongs in the comparison mainly as a different approach: an interest in a character or story can be the starting point. The provider describes calls in which you can talk to characters and switch between voice and text. A documented feature does not, however, tell you how natural the voice or dialogue will feel in your particular setup.
Memory still needs checking
The official overview describes notes containing important context and several memory features, including options tied to particular plans. The provider itself stresses that these features do not guarantee the character will remember every detail correctly. A useful trial is to choose some non-sensitive information, return to it later and record errors. We have not carried out that comparison here.
Adult chat and content boundaries
In September 2026, the provider maintains that open character chat has been removed for users under 18. The platform still has a separate experience for younger users, so the whole service is not described as adults-only. Content is moderated under the platform's rules. This makes it an option for character dialogue, not a promise of unrestricted adult content. The current privacy policy could not be reviewed in full during this check, so no overall privacy rating is given.
