Memory, subscriptions and privacy with AI companions
What is remembered, what does it cost and what happens to your data? Current terms are part of the product.
An AI companion may feel more personal when it uses earlier information in conversation. Before choosing, however, examine what the manufacturer means by memory, which features require a subscription and what happens to your information. A visible memory, a saved conversation and recalling an old detail are different things. Stopping payment, deleting a memory and deleting an account are also different actions.
Memory has several layers
Kindroid distinguishes persistent information, medium-term memory and recall of older content; the provider itself describes recall as potentially unreliable. Learned Context can be viewed and edited. Replika has a Memory tab with visible memories. Nomi highlights short-, medium- and long-term memory. These descriptions document features, rather than a comparative measurement of which remembers best. [1] [3] [5]
Read the current FAQ before the memory promise
SEDOLL's SE X-Bot page highlights long-term memory, while its FAQ says the current version only has temporary memory and an expansion is planned. We use the specific FAQ as our basis. IronAI Head lists no long-term memory on its free tier and offers it in paid plans. Memory should therefore be assessed against both the current software version and the selected subscription. [6] [7]
A subscription may be part of the functionality
Kindroid phased out unlimited free chat on 1 October 2026. After the preview or subscription expires, the account becomes read-only: content can still be viewed, exported and deleted, but new conversations require trial or subscription access. SEDOLL states that Annika has a paid voice service. Compare the overall ongoing use, rather than just the price of the head or app access. [8] [2] [6]
Privacy also concerns processing and deletion
Replika's policy describes conversation data being processed by external AI model providers, with restrictions and exceptions including safety and legal requirements. Nomi says personal data is not sold or rented, but describes server storage and specific sharing purposes. SEDOLL states that conversations are processed in the cloud. None of these statements should be shortened to mean that information never leaves your device. [4] [9] [6]
Our assessment
Give control over data a place in your decision alongside conversation quality. Check whether you can edit memories, export conversations, cancel the subscription and request deletion, and read what the manufacturer says about retention after cancellation. Start with information you are comfortable giving the service, and distinguish deleting a visible memory from deleting account data. When we compare AI companions on Sexrobotten, both subscription and privacy information should be dated because terms can change. A clear privacy policy is valuable documentation, but is not in itself an independent security assessment. The best assessment makes clear what is stated, what the user can control and what we have yet to try.
